As a writer for the Chicago Tribune, I was the
author of a three-part series about traumatic brain
injury.
Later, as I read about American soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan with brain injuries, a story began to unfold in my mind. It was a story about an ordinary family forced to deal with an extraordinary loss. This book is about one young girl's journey. It is a journey undertaken thousands of times each year by children, and other family members, of people with brain injuries.
